Sharepoint 2010 Usage and Health Data Collection Service

Overview

Usage data collection contains a set of events which can be monitored and reported on at timed intervals.  These repots provide valuable insight into what is being used or not used in your farm.  With this information, you can forecast which services you may need to replicate or partition in the future, which services you may consider disabling to free up resources or even which services you want to better promote in your organization to maximize the value of your SharePoint investment.

How to do

1.     "Web Analytics Data Processing Service" and "Web Analytics Web Service" is stopped

2.     Go to Central Admin | Monitoring | under Reporting click to “View Web Analytics reports”

3.     You will get error

4.     System Settings >> Manage Services on Server >> Ensure that "Web Analytics Data Processing Service" and "Web Analytics Web Service" is running

5.     Go to Central Admin | Monitoring | under Reporting click to “View Web Analytics reports”

6.     You still get error

7.     Make sure the "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Processing" job is enabled

8.     Go to Central Admin | Monitoring | under Reporting click to “configure diagnostic logging”

9.     Configure follow as

10.  Go to Central Admin | Monitoring | under Reporting click to “View Web Analytics reports” You will see
