Office Web Apps services:
|
Office Web Apps is a Web-based productivity offering from Microsoft Office 2010 suites. Office Web Apps services include companions to Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, and Microsoft OneNote 2010. These Web-based applications are stand-alone applications focused on offering access to Word 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Excel 2010, and OneNote 2010 documents through any browser across multiple platforms, lightweight creation and editing capabilities in standard formats, sharing and collaboration on those documents through the browser, and various Web-enabled scenarios. Documents created by using Office Web Apps are no different from documents that were created by using the corresponding desktop applications. The associated services are used to prepare documents for viewing and editing in a Web browser.
|
Microsoft Project Server 2010
|
Microsoft Project Server 2010 hosts one or more Microsoft Project Web Access instances, exposes scheduling functionality and other middle-tier calculations on Microsoft Project data, and exposes Web services for interacting with Microsoft Project 2010 data.

Service applications are different from the services that are started and stopped on specific servers and listed on the Services on Server page in the SharePoint Central Administration Web site. Some of the services listed on this page are associated with service applications, but service applications represent specific instances of services that can be configured and shared in specific ways.

Overview
Overview
Access 2010 templates are
accessible from Access Backstage and are ready-to-use and free database
solutions complete with tables, queries, forms, and reports built for common
scenarios. In addition to the templates shipped with Access 2010, there are
numerous third party templates available at office.com.
Many times, you may find that
it is much easier to customize a template to a customer’s unique needs rather
than start from scratch. In this exercise, you will learn how to perform tasks
related to template customization and save development time.
Consider the needs of a human
resources manager who needs to track job applicants. A good place to start in a
situation like this is to see if there are any templates available that you
could use as a starting point. In Access 2010, the Contacts Web Database
template serves as an excellent starting point for a job applicant tracking
system. Since the purpose of this exercise is to get experience modifying web
database objects, we will use the Contacts Web Database template as a starting
point for this exercise.
2. Application Registry |

Overview
Overview
The Application Registry Service is a shared service in SharePoint Server 2010 to store application definitions that are compatible with the Office SharePoint Server 2007 Business Data Catalog object model. If you did a version to version upgrade from Office SharePoint Server 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010 or you did a standalone installation of SharePoint Server 2010, the service is turned on by default. If you are not upgrading solutions from Office SharePoint Server 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010, you can turn the service off to improve performance. This article describes how to turn off and turn on the Application Registry Service by using Central Administration or Windows PowerShell.
3. Business Data Connectivity Service |
Microsoft Business Connectivity
Services (BCS), formerly named the Business Data Catalog, enables users to read
and write data from external systems—through Web services, databases, and
Microsoft .NET Framework assemblies—from within Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and
Microsoft Office 2010 applications. Both SharePoint 2010 and Office 2010
applications have product features that can use external data directly, both
online and offline. Developers can gain access to a rich set of features and
rapidly build solutions by using familiar tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio
2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2010.
4. Secure Store Service |
The Secure Store Service is an
authorization service that runs on an application server. The Secure Store
Service provides a database that is used to store credentials. These
credentials usually consist of a user identity and password, but can also
contain other fields that you define. For example, SharePoint Server 2010 can
use the secure store database to store and retrieve credentials for access to
external data sources. The Secure Store Service provides support for storing
multiple sets of credentials for multiple back-end systems.
5. Excel Calculation Services |
Excel Services in Microsoft SharePoint
Server 2010 is a shared service that you can use to publish Microsoft Excel
2010 workbooks on SharePoint Server. The published workbooks can be managed and
secured according to your organizational needs and shared among SharePoint
Server 2010 users, who can render the workbooks in a browser. Excel Services
was introduced in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and is available only
in the Enterprise edition of SharePoint Server 2010.
6. Miscrosoft SharePoint Foundation Subscriptions Settings Service |
The Microsoft SharePoint
Foundation Subscription Setting service is one element of a concept known as
multi-tenancy in SharePoint 2010. The
service provides a means of creating and managing logical groups of site
collections based on the need to share settings, features and service data.
Service provides a means of
creating and managing logical groups of site collections based on the need to
share settings, features and service data.
7. Miscrosoft SharePoint Foundation User Code Service |
This service runs code deployed
as part of a sandboxed solution in a remote, rights-restricted process and
measures the server resources used during execution against a site
collection-scoped, daily quota.
8. PerformancePoint Service |
PerformancePoint Services in
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 is a performance management service that you
can use to monitor and analyze your business. By providing flexible,
easy-to-use tools for building dashboards, scorecards, and key performance
indicators (KPIs), PerformancePoint Services can help individuals across an
organization make informed business decisions that align with companywide
objectives and strategy. Dashboards, scorecards, KPIs, and reports help drive
accountability. Integrated analytics help workers quickly move from monitoring
information to analyzing it, and where appropriate, sharing it throughout the
organization. Before PerformancePoint Services became part of Microsoft
SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 was a
standalone server. Now the functionality of Microsoft Office PerformancePoint
Server 2007 is available as an integrated part of the Office SharePoint Server
Enterprise license. PerformancePoint Services retains much of the same features
and functionality as its predecessor while including additional benefits,
enhancements, and new functionality.
9. Miscrosoft SharePoint Foundation Help Search Service |
If you activate it, the Help
button next to the search input box will navigate your custom help content
instead of MS online help
10. State Service |
The State Service is a shared
service that is used by some Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 components to
store temporary data across related HTTP requests in a SQL Server database. In
SharePoint Server 2010, the State Service is required by InfoPath Forms
Services (including out of the box and custom workflow forms), the SharePoint
Server 2010 Chart Web Part, and certain Microsoft Visio 2010 scenarios that do
not use Microsoft Silverlight 3.
11. Usage and Health Data Collection Service |
Usage data collection contains
a set of events which can be monitored and reported on at timed
intervals. These repots provide valuable insight into what is being used
or not used in your farm. With this information, you can forecast which
services you may need to replicate or partition in the future, which services
you may consider disabling to free up resources or even which services you want
to better promote in your organization to maximize the value of your SharePoint
investment.
12. Visio Graphics Service |
The Visio Graphics
Service is a SharePoint Server 2010 service application that enables
dynamic viewing, refreshing, and sharing of data-driven Microsoft Visio 2010
diagrams through Visio Web Access Web part, Web part Connections, and Visio
Services Mash-up API. This piece will provide high-level steps in consuming
this service application.
13. PowerPoint Service |
Used to prepare Office PowerPoint
presentations for viewing and editing in a Web browser. See also the SharePoint
service, Office Web Apps Services. This SharePoint service has the related
SharePoint Feature, Office Web Apps.
Link to my article: 14. Word Automation Service |
Word Automation Services is a
new service application in SharePoint Server 2010. Word Automation Services
provides unattended, server-side conversion of documents into formats that are
supported by the Microsoft Word client application.
15. Word Viewing Service |
The Word Viewing service
application settings page allows administrators to set supported file formats,
embedded font support, document scanning, and process settings for users
viewing Word documents in a Web browser by using the Word Viewing Web App.
16.User Profile and User Profile Synchronization Service |
The User Profile service
application stores information about users in a central location. Social
computing features use this information to facilitate productive interactions
which enable users to collaborate efficiently. In order to provision My Sites,
enable social computing features such as social tagging and newsfeeds, and
create and distribute profiles across multiple sites and farms, you must enable
the User Profile service application. more detail http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662538(v=office.14).aspx.
17. Document Conversions Launcher Service and Document Conversions Load balancer Service |
Link to my article: Document Conversions Launcher Service and Document Conversions Load balancer Service
Overview
Overview
Document Conversion Load
Balancer Service: This service balances the document conversion requests from
across the server farm. When it receives a converter request from SharePoint
Foundation, the document conversion load balancer service must return a URI to
the appropriate document conversion launcher service. SharePoint Foundation
connects to the specified launcher via .NET Remoting and requests that it
convert the specified document.
Document Conversion Launcher
Service: This service schedules and initiates the document conversions. When
SharePoint Foundation passes a document conversion request to the document
conversion launcher service, the service must call the appropriate document
converter.
18. Managed Metadata Service |
